Founded in 1935, the National Association of Counties (NACo) is a nonpartisan public officials’ association that exists to provide county officials with a voice in the federal policy-making process. NACo staff members provide these officials with information concerning policy innovations around the country as well as research and technical assistance. At its annual meetings, NACo members develop the American County Platform, a county-based analysis of federal lawmaking that guides the advocacy and lobbying efforts carried out by permanent staff at the NACo’s Washington headquarters.
